Sketching in Cuenca

Not too far from Madrid, so you could make a day trip of it or stay overnight. You might find it gets a bit busy at the weekend as the old town is pretty small and sits on top of a rock in the middle of a gorge. Cuenca is famed for its hanging houses, perched precariously on the cliff tops over the void. From the museum and restaurants found inside these buildings you can enjoy spectacular views of  the valley floor below and the crumbling cliffs all around.

Easter is a blast as the locals parade all night through the steep streets beating drums and transporting sculptures depicting the passion of Christ from church to church.

Cuenca
